THIS JUST IN! 49ers sign Three UDFA Wide Receivers

WR’s Shay Hodge, of Ole Miss, Scott Long, of Louisville and Jared Perry, of Missouri  signed with the 49ers, according to CSNBayArea.com and Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

Hodge is 6’1 207, and caught 70 passes for 1,135 yards and 8 TD’s for Ole Miss in 2009. In his career, Hodge has 173 receptions, 2,646 receiving yards and 22 TD’s. Hodge is the most experienced of the trio, but it remains to be seen if he can get the sixth WR spot.

Long is 6’2”, 216, and caught 53 passes for 727 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals. His career numbers are 93 receptions, 1,286 receiving yards and 4 TD’s. Long ran a 4.46 second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, with 20 reps of 225 at the bench press and the highest vertical jump (41.5 inches) of any receiver. He also jumped 10’3” in the broad jump and had the fastest 3-cone drill(6.45 seconds) and 60-yard shuttle time (11.06 seconds) of any WR . Despite his success at the combine, he will probably just be an extra body for the 49ers at WR.

Jared Perry is 6’1′, 180, and caught 46 passes for 696 yards and 6 TD’s in 2009, all career-highs. In his career with Missouri, Perry caught 137 passes for 1,844 yards and 13 TD’s. Perry reached 10’1” on the broad jump and clocked a 6.75 second time in the 3-cone drill at the NFL Combine.Perry will probably serve the same purpose as Long and Hodge, an extra body in the offseason at WR. With the opportunity, maybe one of them can surprise all of us and make the team. One thing I know for sure, wide receiver will be one of the most competitive positions this offseason for the 49ers. It will be interesting to see which of this group of WR’s (Kyle Williams, Shay Hodge, Scott Long, and Jared Perry) can find a spot on the 53-man roster.
